Avid biker on a budget, April 11, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Diamondback 2012 Response Sport Mountain Bike (Blue) (Sports) This bike is great. I ride single track on the weekend and aggressive street riding during the week. The rims are solid, the breaks are great, gear shifters and gear ratio are good and the frame is just absolutley solid. The forks are great for my weight (150lbs). It's either black or white for the preload though. I max load for street and max unload for the trails. This actually works perfect for my weight. I have not bottomed out on them either. Bottom line, I've had this bike for 2 months now and have really put it to the test; it has not flinched. Only bad thing, get real pedals. The ones that DB supplies are plastic. Great for me and for the price.

Were the bike to have come in 1,063 pieces, you receive a generic booklet for assembling all those parts. I looked at the booklet twice, but it was of no help at all.
The bike comes in a standard size box with finger holes you can press into the box. Once I had the copper staples at the top of the box removed, I laid the box on its side and tried to slide the bike out. The front wheel is removed from the bike, but tied to the rest of the bike and kept the bike from sliding out. After removing cardboard packing and the cords holding the front wheel, I pulled the front wheel out and then the rest of the bike came out. The front handlebars are all assembled but hanging loose, and they have to be attached to the stem.
The box included two sets of tools, but the tool set did not include one size of Allen wrench which is needed to attach the front brake cable to the front fork. I had some Allen... Read more

I did extensive research in local bicycle shops, big box stores, and online discussion forums before purchasing this bike. Similar bikes with similar quality components from other brands like Trek, Fuji, or Haro usually cost around $650 - $700. Amazon has great discounts and it is really a steal.
With all that being said, I do highly recommend having a local bicycle shop assemble this bike for you or at least check it after you assemble it. I assemble it by myself and it took me about 4 hours. I read the user's manual back to back and I searched online and watched Youtube videos whenever I ran into questions. The assembly went fairly well, but I failed to check the front and ear derailleurs before I put it on the road. On my first test drive, everything went smoothly. On my second test drive, the front derailleur had some difficulties shifting gears but it eventually worked out. I should take that as a warning sign and check the... Read more
